There’s something special about being out and about on a weekday. I work in an office three days a week, but on Wednesdays and Fridays I’m home with my boy. There’s a quietness, a uniqueness that I can’t quite put my finger on on those days when the majority of the world is at work or school. Even after a year of this schedule, it still feels like I’m playing hooky; like I’m getting away with something. We took these photos on one of those special weekdays last week.
My parents collaborated on this super cute wagon for Desmond’s first birthday party last month. My mom saw the idea on Pinterest to offer hay rides at a kid’s fall party and she was off, enlisting the help of my dad to makeover a wagon he previously used at old car flea markets and searching through her fabric scraps to deck the thing out properly. I was preoccupied at Des’ party and never properly photographed the kids using the wagon that day. We decided we wouldn’t take off the fabric after the party because it just makes the wagon that much cooler. And here we are enjoying Des’ fall festive ride on a both regular and special weekday.
If you’re inspired to make your own festive wagon, gather your fabric scraps and tie them onto a bungy cord. Wrap and secure that cord around the wagon. In this case, we (and by we, I mean my mom and dad) also added a stuffed burlap cushion for comfort and ties for around the waist so that the smaller children could ride in it without falling out! The ties are on both sides because isn’t any wagon ride funner with a friend?
