Happy 4th everyone! I fully intended to post a very patriotic picture of Desmond today—waving his first flag, or wrapped in some red, white, and blue bunting, or maybe wearing a solid pair of star sunglasses or an Uncle Sam beard (too hot!). But, we’ve been so busy these past couple days having fun in the sun that I really haven’t had my camera out much. So, instead of stars and stripes, today’s picture features his independence.
He’s been more and more into independent play lately, and I absolutely marvel at watching him have a go with a toy bin dumped out on the living room floor. My boy most loves toys with wheels and toys that aren’t toys (like I’ve said before) including that muffin tin to his left. Who would have thought that a muffin tin, one that he discovered himself while investigating the contents in the bottom draw of our oven, would be the perfect place to sort and store small toys. Desmond, that’s who. We don’t make many muffins around here anyway.
Other features in this photo that make me melt like a piece of butter on a warm muffin (okay, sorry, I’ve taken this muffin thing too far) include his elbow dimple, his perfectly soft, white baby skin that you can practically smell through this picture, and that hairline of his that looks like he’s just been to the barber to get a boy’s regular.
We’ll be spending our Independence Day indoors, since Hurricane Arthur is supposed to cause some pretty nasty weather. We might have to skip the fancy red, white and blue baby outfit and let him chill in his diaper. He seems to quite enjoy that freedom. And you can bet that that guy up there will be working on his independence today… and tomorrow and the next day.
Happy Independence Day to all!
