Nothing screams Independence Day like a pool noodle. Am I right?! No??? Well, wrap it in red, white, and blue and then maybe you’ll agree. If you’re feeling equally crafty and patriotic as the holiday weekend approaches, make this super easy red, white, and blue wreath.
Gather your supplies.
- Pool noodle
- White felt
- Patriotic Tchotchke
- Red, Blue, and White Yarn
- Duct Tape (Bonus points if it has mustaches on it)
- Scissors (Not pictured – oops!)
Form your pool noodle into a circle and use the pencil to connect the ends. Make sure it’s nice and round and not egg-y or oval-y. When you’ve got a good shape, quick, use the duct tape and secure it.
Cut your white felt into strips that are about 2 inches wide. Wrap the strips around and around your noodle, securing with t-pins on what will be the back of your wreath. When you finish with one strip, just start another where you left off. Overlap the strips so that you can’t see any of the noodle color.
After you’ve covered the entire surface with felt, start wrapping in white yarn.
Next, become distracted by your family, who happen to be playing a few feet away.
Reconvene inside later (since the sun sets whilst you’re being distracted by aforementioned family) and continue to wrap the white yarn until the entire noodle (which is quickly becoming a wreath) is covered. Consider catching up on your DVR during this step, as this is the most time-consuming part.
Next, add your red and blue yarn in any pattern you choose.
Finally, secure your little patriotic tchotchke with a bit more white yarn. BOOM! Now your pool noodle really IS patriotic!
What’s especially cool about this wreath is that you can use it throughout the year by changing the colored yarn to reflect the current holiday. Make it pink and purple for Easter, red and green at Christmas… you get the idea.
Cheers! Happy birthday, America!
